Between Us is an interactive installation in which telephone booths across the De Parade festival grounds create unexpected connections. When a receiver is picked up, a phone may begin to ring somewhere else on the site. In this way, spontaneous conversations emerge between strangers, without either person knowing who is on the other end of the line.
The installation explores what remains when the usual layers of communication are stripped away. Without screens, the voice takes center stage. Listening, speaking, silence, and imagination become the foundation of an encounter that unfolds entirely through sound.
Within the bustle of the festival, the telephone booth serves as a temporary space of solitude. At the same time, it opens a direct connection to an unknown other. Suspended between anonymity and intimacy, Between Us creates a moment of human connection.
