There are 14 branches of SBK Kunstuitleen in the Netherlands. This is basically a library with art instead of books. Art is on loan, but can be bought.
Kunstuitleen Osdorp has a big collection of art in frames for on the wall. In the branch are six long rows of shelves on wheels, on which art is stored. Visitors have the opportunity to ‘thumb’ through the collection.
In a corner are a couple of sculptures of various heights, materials and prices.
The current arrangement functions as depot and as shop or library.
At the exposition 'Exposed' the works of art have been hung on the wall.
All walls are completely covered with paintings and photographs.
'Exposed' not only shows the art by covering the walls of the big industrial eyeing collection space of Kunstuitleen, it also uncovers the art. Because the visitor now has the possibility to keep some distance, the work of art looks truly different - even in the middle of all the other works- from it’s position on the shelf.
During the period of the exposition empty spots will rise of works that have been removed to be loaned out.
In the gallery (Galerie 32-34) next to Kunstuitleen is a row of shelves exhibited, to show how the works are usually set up.
