Mono no Aware for the Pleinmuseum under the authority of the Centraal Museum, Utrecht. In cooperation with composer Merlijn Twaalfhoven and visual artist Govinda Mens. The object Pleinmuseum is a projection screen that has been designed by René van Engelenburg.
The projection screen is affected by atmospheric influences at several stages in the process. Video beams function as beams of light that cause changes on the surface of the screen. In this continual seemingly organic process a diversity of images is visible, showing characteristic changes taking place in the material. The music accompanies the images imitating sounds of the environment.
Mono no aware is a Japanese term that cannot properly be translated. It is best understood as the tender, slightly melancholic state of mind that originates from the continual change of time.
