Cinema is a realistic cinema room. A hostess shows the visitors in. She brings them to their comfortable seat. The door closes, the atmospheric lighting is dimmed and the muzak fades out. After a moment of darkness the curtains draw. A blinding light illuminates the room. There are six 2KW film lamps directed towards the audience and all the public can do is turn away and face his/her neighbor. The light is blinding and the heat is sensible. When the lamps go out you can still see them glow before the curtains are drawn. The audience is lead outside. The entrance has become the exit.
The installation Cinema exists of a corridor and a cinema room with a sloping floor. Inside the wooden construction is furnished with black cloth and on there is carpet on the floor. During the ‘performance’ the wall behind the closed door of the entrance is turned. In this way the audience leaves through the back of the construction, instead of the attractive furnished entrance. on the way out the wooden beams of the cinema room are visible and leaving visitors can see the film lamps positioned behind the installation.
